In recent years, with the development of technology and intensive market competition, people's consciousness of efficient use of energy, improvement of product quality and environmental protection has strengthened gradually. At the present time, the main direction of research on drying equipment is efficient use of energy, environmental protection and developing a multipurpose dryer.

Energy conservation and comprehensive utilization of energy

In an industrially advanced country, the energy consumption of drying equipment accounts for more than ten percent of its total energy consumption. Therefore, reducing the energy consumption of drying equipment is a long-term task which involves a wide range of sides. The dryer manufacturers must pay attention to energy conservation and comprehensive utilization of energy. In order to achieve this goal, they need to research on the following aspects:

(1) Applying superheated steam as the drying medium in direct dryers.

(2) Abundant use of the indirect heating mode.

(3) Adopting the combined mode of heat transfer (the combination of convection, conduction and dielectric or thermal radiation).

(4) Adopting the volume heating mode (microwave or radio-frequency field).

(5) Adopting the discontinuous mode of heat transfer.

(6) Adopting new or more effective heating methods (such as pulse-combustion, induction heating etc.).

(7) Transferring heat pump technology and heat pipe technology, developing the solar dryer.
